Recommendations for shower cabin care

 Your acquaintances’ mixer or a hydro massage shower is out of order within a year after operation? The exterior view of the cabin after a short period of time is far from the original? It happens because of a poorly maintained shower. Daily use, especially even several times a day, in combination with poor water quality, leaves an indelible mark on the state of all components of the cab. By following simple rules of maintenance, we can not only maintain an attractive appearance, but also extend the life of the shower.

Care for the walls and doors of a shower cabin.

Tempered glass

There are virtually no problems with this material. Tempered glass can be tinted, frosted or transparent. Due to its the high durability, the glass does not crack, does not scratch and looks like new after normal maintenance even after 10 years.

All that is needed to achieve this effect is to regularly wipe and dry the walls and doors of a shower cabin by using Windex, which will protect the surface from dust. This allows you to avoid the white residue and stains on the surface of a shower cabin, which are the result of excess mineral salts in tap water.

However, it is important to remember that to achieve good results, doors and walls made of tempered glass should necessarily be cared for after each use. The task of caring is made easier by having anti-plaque coating, which not only prevents dust from settling on the surface, but also perfectly repels water, preventing the formation of lime deposits.

Plastic (polystyrene)

If the walls and doors of a shower enclosure are made of polystyrene, taking care of them can require a lot of effort and time. First, on the surface of the plastic the dried droplets of water form a white plaque, which gives the shower a sloppy appearance. After a while, the door and the wall of the structure may turn yellow or become covered with mold without any reason.

In order to save the situation, it is best to acquire special means of care for plastics, which are sprayed after each use of your shower and are not wash away.

Tip: if you choose a shower cabin with plastic doors and walls, preference should be given to the transparent plastic, on which the visible defects or stains are less visible.

Care for the shower base

Currently, the most popular material for making shower bases for shower cabins is acrylic.

The basic rule when cleaning acrylic shower bases is not to use any tools with abrasive particles. Each shower cabin comes with an instruction manual that lists recommended cleaning supplies for its care. Cleaning of acrylic surfaces should not take more than 10 minutes: apply the cleanser evenly onto the surface with a sponge and rinse with warm water after 5-10 minutes.

Cleaning of the acrylic surfaces is made by using a soft sponge or cloth with a small amount of detergent. In order for the surface of the shower base to retain its attractiveness and shine, you can use a special wax polish or simply rub it with a dry cloth.

If acrylic stains have already appeared on the surface, use liquid detergent or an ordinary toothpaste. In order to remove the scum from the surface of the shower base, you can use vinegar or lemon juice: apply a soft cloth or tissue and gently rub the stain.

Tips (what NOT to do):

  • Use laundry detergent as a means for cleaning the acrylic surface;
  • use substances such as ammonia or acetone;
  • apply formaldehyde or formic acid.

Care of a metal or cast-iron shower base should be carried out in accordance with the included user manual for the shower cabin.

Care for the hydro massage system.

To prolong the life of the water pool jets, you must carry out monthly cleaning. In order to carry this task out, fill the tub with water diluted with liquid detergent. After that you need to activate the water pool jets for 5 minutes, then turn them off and leave them like that for 10 minutes. After a certain time, you need to drain the water and fill the bathtub again, but without adding care products. Turn on the water pool jets, and after 5 minutes drain the water and perform cleaning.

To prolong the service life of components of a shower cabin you need to install water filters, which will sanitize it from impurities such as salts and debris. In addition, it is recommended to wipe all the elements of a shower enclosure dry after each use.
